To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Meter Convention, the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) organized a series of events in Paris and Versailles on May 20, 21, and 22, 2025.
Roundtable at UNESCO
On May 20, a symposium was held at UNESCO. This event brought together representatives of states, national metrology institutes, international liaison organizations, as well as scientists and other metrology professionals.
In this context, Maguelonne Chambon led a roundtable discussion on future opportunities for the BIPM and global metrology in the context of the UNESCO International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development, 2024–2033.
Posters on key metrology challenges
On May 21 and 22, the BIPM organized a conference at the Palais des congrès in Versailles. This event aimed to highlight achievements in metrology since the creation of the BIPM and to recognize the crucial importance of measurement science in various aspects of daily life.
The conference also provided a vision for the future of metrology, exploring innovations that will shape the landscape in the coming decades.
In preparation for this event, a call for poster submissions on key metrology challenges was organized. Over 385 posters were received. French laboratories responded with 17 selected posters, one of which was highlighted to represent the Health theme: Chiara Giangrande's poster titled "Standardisation of Measurements of Neurodegenerative Disease Biomarkers: The NEuroBioStand Project", which was presented during the conference to represent the contributions of metrology in the field of health.
Posters presented by the RNMF laboratories are available on BIPM website
