The European Metrology Network for Mathematics and Statistics (EMN Mathmet) has published a revised version of its Strategic Research Agenda (SRA). This new edition is now available online.
The French National Metrology Network (RNMF), through the Data Science and Uncertainty Department of LNE, was involved in its revision.
The document presents the EMN's strategic vision for the coming years and identifies the main research areas in which mathematics and statistics contribute to addressing the challenges of modern metrology.
This new version gives significant attention to emerging themes such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, synthetic data, and virtual metrology, while consolidating work on uncertainty quantification, data analysis, and modeling.
The revised version of the SRA also takes into account recent European regulations and strategies regarding AI and digital transformation. It thus enriches the technical guidelines with new topics, including reference data, hybrid and self-adaptive systems, and new approaches for uncertainty analysis and assessment. It also presents the progress made by the national metrology institutes that are members of Mathmet since the previous version published in 2023.
This update is fully aligned with European priorities related to the digital transition and highlights the role of mathematical and statistical methods in developing new approaches for measurement, modeling, and decision support.
